Need to organise a party for someone but don’t know where to start? Start by choosing a theme and the rest will fall into place.
There are so many great party themes to have fun with, like a musical era, a favourite film or period in history; but it’s a good idea to choose something that is associated with the guest of honour. A good theme can dictate the venue, decoration, food, music, attire and atmosphere, and let’s face it, we all love a good party!
This summer, I was involved in organising a momentous birthday party for a family member. Because the guest of honour loves wearing hats on special occasion, we decided on ‘Ladies Day at the Races’ as the party theme. The venue was chosen and decorated in coloured horse garlands (made by cutting horse silhouettes out of coloured paper and strung together on ribbon), the frame of a garden swing was decorated in paper flowers (to depict the winners circle) and we even had a horse piñata full of sweets.
Guests arrived dressed as jockeys, bookies and in their best finery with all sorts of head attire. This led to a hilarity of competitions for the Best Dressed Man, Best Dressed Lady and the Best Hat. The delicious birthday cake was a large pink and white hat, complete with feathers and a matching handbag (all edible).
To top it all, old political road signs were turned into fun photo cut outs of a jockey on a horse and the best dressed lady, the guests had hours of fun posing for photos.
So you can see how a simple theme can develop into a fun event, it makes planning a party fun and a little less stressful. Thanks for reading ….
